Tetons 2008

I went to the Tetons.

Saturday flew from Philadelphia to Chicago to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Got the rental car and Hiked 5.5 miles around Taggart and Bradley Lake with a 674 foot elevation change. Ate at the Snake River Brew Pub and slept at the 49er.

Sunday woke up early to catch the boat across Jenny Lake an hiked 14 miles to Inspiration Point and Hidden Falls to the fork in the upper Cascade Canyon. 1427 elevation change spotting moose, brown bear, and small snakes. Stayed at the Jackson Lake Lodge.

Monday eight miles of scenic blue and eight of the white on the Snake River with Dave Hanson. Saw tons of bald eagles, osprey, mule deer, and trout. Stayed at the Jackson Lake Lodge.

Tuesday did the entire lower loop at Yellowstone. Saw tons of Bison, eagles, osprey, and four grizzly bears feeding on a bison carcass along with a wolf. Old faithful.

Wednesday ate and relaxed. Staying at the Snake River Spa this was by far my favorite part of the trip. For anyone who has ever shared a living space with me could attest to my infatuation with bathing. This was my Mecca. Not only did they had a jacuzzi, and sauna downstairs by the pool; they had a men’s locker room fit for royalty. With a steam room, hot tub, sauna, showers, swedish showers, and a rain room. Nirvana.

Thursday we rode about twenty miles on horseback with the
Jackson Hole Outfitters from Alpine on the Grays River Trail Head. Saw mountain goats, and cooked hamburgers on an open flame just by wrapping them in aluminum foil. First time really ridding and definitly won’t be my last.

Friday we hiked 16.8 miles up the death Canyon Trail head to Phelps Lake to the Static Peak trail and then scrambled to the Peak Static Peak is a mountain summit in Teton County in the state of Wyoming (WY). Static Peak climbs to 11,211 feet (3,417.11 meters) above sea level. Static Peak is located at latitude - longitude coordinates (also called lat - long coordinates or GPS coordinates) of N 43.682707 and W -110.816046. 4603 foot climb, overlooking all of Jackson, Idaho and right at South and Grand Teton.

Saturday we spent most of the day dorking around, packing, sight seeing in the town of Jackson, and of coarse eating trout. Stopped by to tour the Jackson National Fish Hatchery. Took a small hike up the side of Jackson Hole Mountain, and they are in the process of fixing the tram for the upcoming season. Bought some new Patagonia Drifters at Jack Dennis, and rocked the Jackson Rodeo.
