What you know about the UPenn biopond?
I am lucky enough to work within a hop, skip, and a jump from this place. Its located right on campus and its hidden by buildings, so its never too crowded. There are always ducks hanging around, and the pond is filled with koi. Its the perfect place to take lunch and escape the stress of my very hectic lifestyle.....

Well, the reason for this post is that I just found out that you can rent the pond for parties. Parties! Adult Parties, that include adult beverages! They will let you grill and everything. The real kicker is that you can rent this beautiful pond for only $100!!! So I guess the question is, "when are we doing this and who is in?" It has to be done. Public School Tales: vol. 1

I have been working in the School District of Philadelphia for four years now. In about one week I will start my fifth year and I will be teaching 5th Grade (something I've never done before). I've taught Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 6th Grade and 7th Grade but never 5th Grade. I was also a substitute for three years, so I've "taught" thousands of students in hundreds of different classrooms in about 20 different schools in just about every region of the city. So, I've seen some shit.

One day I was substituting in a Kindergarten class (Kindergarten, remember that, it will make the story more crazy) and some sort of fight breaks out. I don't really remember the details, fights are pretty common. I think it was probably something really small. I went over to break it up. I pull the girl (yes, it was a girl) who started it away from the other student. Here's where it starts to get interesting. The girls keeps struggling and trying to hit the other kid. It gets to the point where I have to hold both of her hands behind her back like they're in handcuffs. While I'm holding her hands she jumps up and kicks the kid in the face. Kicks the other kid in the face!

Three years latter I meet the girl again and she's actually a very sweet young lady but she still gets into fights constantly.

Tighty-Whiteys

Last night I went to the Laundromat to wash some clothes. This very drunk man came in while I was waiting for the dryer to stop. He was swaying back and forth in front of the dryers, and pulled out one shiny quarter, which he put in one of the machines. He then took off the shorts that he was wearing and threw them in the dryer. The only thing he had on now was his tighty-whiteys and a t-shirt. I started cracking up and this drew the attention of the other patrons. Their reactions were either gasps of horror, or giggles. The owner came over and said, “you leave now….or call cops!!” The drunk guy said, “I’ll go if you give me my money back!” They stared each other down for a second until the owner caved and gave him back his quarter, he calmly put his shorts back on, and walked out, but not before he could ramble on about living in a free country, the price of gasoline, and something about china. It was pretty awesome and totally made my night.

For a short period of time I had a restraining order against my stepfather. He wasn’t allowed within 200 ft of me. My mother and he were still together, and she had delusions of grandeur that we may still be able to be friends. She would bring him to family functions in the hopes of us reconciling our differences. One year for thanksgiving she brought him over to my grandmother’s house where I was living at the time. It was technically illegal for us to be in the same room together so I split. I sat in the park across the street until I saw his car leave, then went home and ate my dinner by myself.

Thanksgiving hasn’t been a big deal ever since.
