Why is it that this blog is consumed with all things Wire? I love the show, but something about it makes people feel as though they have to commit whole heartily to it. Most times when something is cultishly popular there is a backlash. I'm still waiting for it with The Wire. Perhaps people feel a competitive urge to prove how much they like the show. The guantlet was thrown down by t.v. critics who declared it, 'BEST SHOW EVER.' Now we feel like we have to up the ante. 'Best Show, eh? I say it is the best THING ever! Take that!'
That's not why I'm here, today, though. Over at the Freakonomics blog they have a fella watching the Wire with real life street toughs and recording their thoughts. There are season 5 spoilers, so if you have not watched it yet, maybe wait, if you have watched the fifth season peepth this shit:
