The Picture of Irony

Do you remember when you were in school and the teacher, being oh-so-clever, asked the class to define irony and then smirked as they struggled? Or have you read the absurd dissertation in the appendix to Heart Breaking Work of Staggering Genius on irony? Me neither, the font was way too small. Well don't worry about not reading it, or that pesky teacher, someone over at the blog Boing Boing has found the photograph that will quell all future discussions of irony. Would you like to see? Public School Tales: vol. 3

Three or four years ago I was substituting in a music class for the day. One of the classes I had to teach was an eighth grade class. After the class was over I was straightening up the room. That's when I found this. The following is a recreation of a note I found in one of the desks.

Girl 1: I can't believe how mean Mr. Bui is.

Girl 2:Yeah, who would of thought that such a cute little man could be so mean. He's a devil.

Girls 3: More like The Devil.

Cleaning The Walls

Denton Tall Tales #19

Garon was one of my first friends. I remember him making fun of me before I could speak English. We were friends from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

He let me borrow his Slick Rick tapes and we would crack ourselves up by singing the lyrics. He was really funny and had the uncanny ability of farting at precisely the right moment. In high school we didn’t hang with Garon too much. He wasn’t into smoking blunts, and that was pretty much all we were into. I think Garon might have won class clown and also best dressed.

A couple of years after school I heard a story about Garon accidently shooting himself in the foot. It seemed weird that he had a gun, but the foot shooting part seemed like typical Garon. I laughed and didn’t really think anything of it.

When I heard the recent news about Garon, I was completely shocked. It sounds cliché, but I would have never thought he was capable of doing anything like this.
